Collierville, TN Schools

“Whatever your passion is, you can find it here”.  That’s what the assistant principal of Collierville High School said to us during his speech, and he wasn’t kidding.  I recently had the opportunity to do a private tour of Collierville High School as part of our Crye-Leike brokers meeting. While our family is Collierville residents and intentional chose Collierville to live, work, and seek education, I was still blown away by how much the Collierville High School has to offer. Affectionately called “Collierville University” locally due to it’s size and course curriculum, this new high school gives students and families and opportunity to seek any kind of education and extra-curricular activities you can imagine.

School Class Options

The school has classes in nursing, welding, news anchoring, mechanics, culinary arts, and even a Harry Potter club.  FedEx has pilots that come teach about aviation if your student is interested in learning to fly (not on a broomstick, that’s still the Harry Potter club). And they can accommodate all these classes by being the largest high school in the state of Tennessee at over 3,000 students spread out on 156 acres of campus.  They are even expanding as we speak by adding more square footage!

Town of Collierville

The high school is one of the major efforts in the city creating its own school district, as they needed a new space to house a massive influx of new Collierville residents.  The city of Collierville currently has approximately 53,000 residents, but is expected to grow to 80,000 residents by 2040. Most of this growth will be south of highway 385, with expansive new construction near the campus of the new high school. Collierville is ranked one of the 10 safest communities in West TN while being within a short drive to all the amenities of a larger city. It is also home to over 3,000 FedEx employees as one of their major campuses is located in town.

Small Town Features

However, with all this growth, Collierville remains the quaint, quintessential small Southern town. It still has its award-winning downtown square, with various summer events and long-standing restaurants.  They have one of the largest fireworks displays in West TN during the 4th of July and visiting their amazing Christmas on the Square display has been a family tradition for years.  Collierville also has 20 different parks, including WC Johnson Park which has its own splash pad for kids and a 3+ mile jogging trail through the woods.  Given the town’s dedication to maintaining its small town roots while still going through massive growth, I am proud to be a Collierville resident and believe you should come stop by for a visit!
