PICKWICK LAKE DAY TRIP – VISIT CORINTH, MS.

Every year, my friends and I take a girls’ trip to Pickwick Lake. We rent a big beautiful house overlooking the Tennessee River, right past Grand Harbor, with a pool and hot tub. It’s the perfect getaway as it’s 90 minutes away from Memphis and there’s plenty to do between the pool, walking, boating, etc. But, thanks to COVID, 2020 was canceled and 2021 had to be moved to the winter since cases began spiking right at the time of our trip. This year, nearby Corinth, MS was having their holiday open house weekend at the same time as our rescheduled trip, so I jumped in to help plan a shopping and eating day for everyone to enjoy. Corinth is a gem of a Mississippi town with a beautifully restored downtown.

Furniture Shopping

While checking out Sanctuary Antiques & Gardens prior to the trip, I ran into a designer from Memphis in the store who told me about the holiday open house. If two Memphians are visiting a furniture store in Mississippi, you know it’s a good one. The store features fine furniture pieces, unique rugs, and home accessories. Nearby, Southern Magnolia Home is another must shop location on the list. They specialize in creating custom pieces of art and decor for any style of home. While visiting, they were getting a charcuterie board ready for delivery. They also host charcuterie workshops with wine pairing events. What a fun activity for the next girls’ trip!

Food

If you’ve done a Pickwick real estate closing with me, you know the best part of signing the closing documents is getting to eat a cheeseburger at Borroum’s Drug Store afterwards. Established in 1865, Borrum’s is Mississippi’s oldest operating drugstore and soda fountain. This is small town livin’ at its best as you get to enjoy a milkshake lunch with your closing documents delivered to the table from the attorney next door!

The food scene has erupted with the expansion of the Vacari businesses, which includes Vacari Italian Italian Grill, V Taco, and Conservatory. Enjoy a fine dining experience with specialized cocktails at Vicari, a delicious taco and margarita from V Taco, or a rooftop experience at Conservatory. If you’re looking for something more casual, Pizza Grocery offers 3 stories of historical charm with an expansive menu. It’s perfect for a date night or social gathering.

Lastly, stop by the Old Tyme Soda Company to pick up some of your favorite candy and sodas that you loved as a kid. Remember slushies and bubble tape? You’ll find those and more here.

General Shopping

One of my favorite places to shop for my husband is Shirley Dawg’s. Featuring some of the most popular Southern brands for all genders and sizes, I’m sure to find some well liked gifts here. After checking the husband off the list and picking up a coffee at the new SOCO Grind location, I work my way towards Ginger’s to find something for the home or an upcoming closing gift. They carry a wide range of gifts and accessories and are known for their beautiful gift wrap. Lastly, a trip isn’t complete without picking up some jewelry from T.Feazell for myself, of course!
